Nantucket Cottage Hospital

The Nantucket Cottage Hospital project involved the complete ground-up construction of a two-story, 100,000-square-foot medical facility located on Nantucket Island. Due to the remote location and the complex nature of healthcare construction, this project required advanced planning, coordination, and precision across all trades.

Harold Brothers was selected to provide full plumbing and HVAC services under a design-assist contract. The HVAC scope included the installation of three dual-fuel (oil/propane) steam boilers, three custom-fabricated air handling units (AHUs), and packaged air-cooled condensers. A Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) cooling system was also installed to provide efficient, flexible temperature control throughout the facility.

On the plumbing side, Harold Brothers installed a complete medical gas system, including Med Air, Med Vac, Oxygen (O₂), Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), Nitrous Oxide (N₂O), and Waste Anesthetic Gas Disposal (WAGD) lines. Additional scope included a triplex water booster system and a domestic hot water system pre-heated via the VRF system—an energy-efficient solution tailored to the hospital’s needs.

This complex, $15.9 million mechanical package was completed over an 18-month duration in coordination with Suffolk Construction, Cannon Design, and the hospital’s ownership team.
